Post 1 Mission Statement; Philosophy of Care
I have heard it’s never too late to learn something new. Later in life learning new things takes courage, a willingness to gamble a little, and an open heart to the possibility that you will permanently “change your mind”.
Your brain is a major part of your body after all; changing the way you think requires exercise, nutrition and hydration the same way you imagine your ‘body’ needs these essentials to be well.
Promoting health in our current culture is a complex career path. The positives of working as a caregiver are spiritual and emotional. This is a shared experience with the individual being cared for.
Even if you feel as if the last thing in the world they want to do is ‘take care’ of a senior friend or family member who needs help, given a sincere and thorough mentors education, you can quickly become a valuable asset to any community.
When I arrived on Quadra 11 years ago I felt immediately sheltered by the environment here, the wildness, wooded winding roads and mountains on almost every horizon. Perhaps I could survive the overwhelming journey of life ahead here, but what does it mean to be part of a community from scratch?
Yes, home is a geographical place; home is also a feeling of collective safety and security.
